Lightning Talks #7

A warm Spring evening meant that the audience for our seventh Lightning Talks could mingle in the charming courtyard at Kite Studios, W12.  Over forty supporters gathered in the main creative room to hear six speakers who had generously donated their time to entertain us.  ‘Short talks on fascinating subjects by local experts’ was the brief, and we certainly enjoyed a variety including:

  • Medieval mystics & anchoresses by Liza Hartley

  • New light on ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch with Philip Hook

  • 78 degrees of wisdom: the unseen power of Pamela Colman Smith by Lizzie Francis

  • 1 symphony, 150 souls by Caroline Page

  • The dress of sleeves by Janene Spencer

  • The history of the English Language by Paul Smith

Thanks to our ever faithful volunteers for making delicious canapes, and to the Hartley family for serving wine and beer as the conversation flowed. Thank you too to Auriol Herford, founder of Kite Studios, for hosting the event and good luck to her with her new initiative - ‘Kite inclusive’. Meg Kaufman, our Chair of Trustees, updated the audience about WLAC’s work in our community. Angela Ridgeon emceed the evening, introducing each speaker with ‘3 things we didn’t know about you’ giving an insight into their real lives, and certainly made for exciting chatter afterwards! Biggest thanks though to Liza, Philip, Lizzie, Caroline, Janene and Paul for their passion and enthusiasm in sharing their expertise!

We raised over £700 to enable us to continue our vital work in Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Auriol for welcoming us once again.

If you could not join us this time, no need to worry as Lightning Talks no 8 is scheduled for October 9th 2025…
