Lightning Talks #5 - a roaring success!
The fifth, and latest, instalment of our Lightning Talks event proved a roaring success once again. The event took place at Kite Studios in W12, and involved a series of short talks on a variety of fascinating subjects.
The format is similar to a Pecha Kucha, meaning ‘chit-chat’ in Japanese, and typically a series of presentations each lasting 6 minutes and 40 seconds and using 20 images! Our Lightning Talks event is slightly more relaxed, and asks presenters to speak for approximately 5 minutes using just five slides, on a subject they feel passionate about, presenting three main points and exploring an unusual or quirky angle.
For our fifth event, we welcomed Michael Owens talking about “Swimming in The Thames”; Leticia Treves (Art Historian) exploring “Colour in artwork”; Rachel Collier on “University Challenge – your starter for ten, is that your Mum?”; Lisa Lucas on “Saunas in Estonia”; Samuel Glynn with “The perils of renting”; and Jim Leaviss with his collection of “Five Bricks” and how he acquired them. It was a unique opportunity to hear captivating stories, gain new insights and be inspired by the incredible talent and knowledge within our community!
Around fifty people came to the event, which was relaxed and friendly, with our wonderful volunteers serving home-made appetisers and wine. Kite Studios, which will be twenty years old next year, was a great space for the evening, with the event space filled with artwork and flowers, and the evening raised a brilliant £1,000 for WLAC.
A big THANK YOU to Auriol Herford (founder of Kite Studios) for agreeing to host our event. The evening was so successful that Instalment Number 6 is already in the Calendar for Wednesday 18th September 2024. Our appreciation goes to Meg Kaufman and Angela Ridgeon for coordinating the speakers and organising the refreshments and Georgina Simpson for making a huge selection of appetisers!
