Aara Bhatia receives a Mayor’s Award

Ever since she was a toddler, Aara, now fourteen, has been a familiar face at the local arts and crafts winter fair, helping her mum behind the scenes and enjoying the festive atmosphere. At just seven years of age, Aara decided she wanted to do more—and asked if she could run her very own stall to raise money for West London Action for Children.

For eight years, Aara has been going strong and steady with the same passion and purpose, manning her own stall creating and selling handmade jewellery, to them donate 100% of her proceeds to support WLAC’s work with local children and families.

Aara does not just sell her creations, she also proudly speaks to customers about WLAC and helps raise awareness of the support and services we provide. Her stall is always beautifully set up, and she plans well in advance to make sure there is plenty of stock ready for the day. At recent events, she has even begun taking commissions and creating jewellery on the spot!

Over the years, Aara has inspired other young people in the community to get involved. Many didn’t realise that children could take part in fundraising until they saw Aara in action, confidently running her stall and making a real impact.

Aara’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by the local community and on 27th March she was presented with a Mayor’s Award - by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councellor Will Lane - in the Young Achievers category, for her extraordinary commitment to improving the lives of those who live, work, study and visit the borough.

We are so proud to have Aara as part of the WLAC community. Her dedication, creativity, and generosity stays inspiring us all.
