Spring 2024
As summer approaches and the days get longer, we look for positive change as we continue to work with local children and their families.
Mental Health Matters
The Mental Health Foundation reports it is 2-3 times more likely for children and adults in the lowest income bracket to develop mental health problems than those in the highest bracket. Creating a family, and parenting, is an important part of life, with so many changes taking place. The strain on the mental health of both mothers and fathers during this transition can affect the long-term well-being of both parents and children. That is why we believe our client-centred, solution-focused and time-unlimited work is so important. But to reach those most in need of support, we need funds. One initiative to raise this money is a match funding campaign this June, run by The Childhood Trust and The Big Give, trying to help us raise £20,000. Could you support us in this way? Please give generously if you can, and help us to continue to reach those most in need.
Volunteer Week
The 3rd - 7th June is Volunteer Week, and we wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our brilliant volunteers. From trustees who are integral in the safe running of WLAC, to our weekly volunteers who help us with administrative tasks, and not forgetting all the volunteers who put on events to raise vital funds - we couldn't do it without you! Thank you!
Your ongoing generous support
As we enter the summer months, I want to reassure you that your support and continued interest in our work is having a positive impact on our families, and that your generous donations enable our therapists, staff and volunteers to continue their valuable work. We are forever grateful for your ongoing help and continue to be encouraged as we see first hand the change our work makes to our clients and their families. Thank you.
Hope and warm wishes,
Heather Boxer

Making the case for early intervention
Recently released NHS data has shown that in just four years, psychiatrists and their teams have seen a 53% increase in the number of children in mental health crisis, who need emergency support.
We know that many crises can be prevented if children and families are offered the specialist support they need at an early stage.
