We are delighted to invite you to a fascinating evening hosted by Olympia Auctions, in aid of West London Action for Children.
Well-known broadcaster, journalist and author Libby Purves OBE will talk to Stephanie Calman, a screenwriter and best selling author and her sister Claire Calman poet, writer and broadcaster about their father, the great irreplaceable cartoonist Mel Calman (1931 - 1994), discussing memories of their childhood and his work which will be on exhibition.
Best known for his pocket cartoons at The Times and The Sunday Times, Mel Calman was a greatly accomplished and highly successful cartoonist. He also worked for television, in films, publishing - including his own 20 books, and advertising. A staunch advocate of cartoons, he opened The Workshop in 1970 specialising in drawings, illustrations and cartoons which later became the Cartoon Gallery. He was also co-founder of the Cartoon Art Trust. Generous with his encouragement of other cartoonists, he helped a number find work and publishers.
Olympia Auctions are exhibiting Mel Calman's cartoons from 19th February - 1st March titled 'Mel Calman on Love, Rage and Neurosis'.
Doors open at 6.30pm. The In Conversation starts at 7pm finishing about 8pm. Drinks and nibbles will be served
