Meals & Reels at the Curry & Ceilidh Night

On the 1st February, the Hammersmith Club hosted its second evening of Scottish dancing and delicious curry, all to raise funds to support WLAC’s work in helping children, young people and families in the local community.

We were delighted to have the wonderful Simon Wales and his amazing 3-piece band to guide us through the reels. Everyone over the age of eight was welcome, and no Scottish dancing experience was necessary but by the end of the evening, we were all fairly competent at Strip the Willow, The Dashing White Sergeant and the Eightsome reel

Punit Bhatia served delicious vegetarian curries, and a dessert of chocolate brownies with whiskey cream and raspberries was provided, courtesy of our generous volunteers. We had a live Scottish-themed raffle, with items including a Yo-Go Electric Buggy Ride safari tour of Hammersmith, meals out at local restaurants, tartan pyjamas, shortbread, Irn-Bru and a haggis kindly donated by the Parson’s Nose a butcher in Fulham.

The hall was awash with Tartan, with kilts, scarves, sashes and ties on show, and the flushed faces and laughter certainly helped to banish those January blues!

The event raised an amazing £6,348 (including GiftAid) which will enable WLAC to carry out their vital work in supporting the families we serve.

A huge thank you to the industrious WLAC events committee, made up of  Sally Brunner, Isobel Leaviss, Meg Kaufman, Punit Bhatia, Angela Ridgeon and Kate Aubrey-Johnson, who not only rallied friends and family to fill the dance floor, but also organised, set up baked, ran the raffle, served desserts and cleared away!

A big shout out to everyone who hosted a Philip Wooller board outside their houses and thanks of course to Philip Wooller for their sponsorship, which covered our expenses and meant that 100% of all donations could go directly to our WLAC.

A special thank you must go to Potli Restaurant on King Street, Hammersmith who were generous in facilitating the curry making in their kitchen!

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone to came and joined in the fun! Without your support, WLAC would not be able to continue the vital work we do in helping to foster hope for brighter futures.
