Ceilidh and Curry Night success! Over £5,000 raised!
We were delighted to introduce a new event to this year’s calendar - a Ceilidh & Curry fundraising event which was held at The Hammersmith Club Society near Hammersmith bridge. Dating back to the 18th century, with many beautiful original features, the glorious venue had great acoustics and was a perfect venue for our evening, with a stage, dancefloor and VIP mezzanine!
Everyone over the age of ten years old was welcome, and there was a live band and a caller who guided guests through the Scottish dances. Each dance was broken down into small easy to absorb chunks to ensure everyone could take part – no Scottish dancing experience necessary! Dance highlights included Strip the Willow, The Gay Gordons and Dashing White Sergeant. Everyone joined in and there was a fantastic intergenerational feel to the evening.
There were delicious curries prepared by Punit, as well as home-made brownies served with cream. There was also a raffle where prizes included all things Scottish: whisky, shortbread and Irn-Bru, with the star prize of a meal for two people at The Havelock Tavern in Brook Green. The invitation to wear tartan was accepted by lots of dancers and included kilts, sashes, ties and even tartan pyjamas won in the raffle!
A big Thank you to Philip Wooller Estate Agent who kindly sponsored the event. Over £5,000 was raised which will go towards WLAC’s valuable work in the community.
