Building a community…

We would like to thank the Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School community which has been fundraising for us. The school children voted for us as their official charity for two years starting in May. They have already been incredibly busy! In addition to a fantastic Summer Event which raised over £2,000, they have organised two ‘own clothes’ days and collected donations from everyone who took part and supported a coffee morning at West Six Garden Centre opposite the school.

Earlier this term we visited the school to talk about the charity’s work and discuss ways to help the school children to cultivate ‘growth mindsets’. When students have a growth mindset, they take on challenges and learn from them, therefore increasing their abilities and achievement. Research shows that growth mindset is linked to the belief that you can grow your intelligence. You can guide students towards embracing growth when you use specific types of praise. Specifically, praising children for effort, rather than achievement, can help foster a growth mindset.

We know that the RPPS community is now working hard in preparation for their Christmas Fair in early December and we wish them the best of luck with this event.

If your school is looking to support a charity, please consider suggesting West London Action for Children. We enjoy working with local organisations to help raise awareness about mental health, our work to support the most vulnerable in our community and what we can all do to help each other.
